Feeling and expression is at the heart of Taylor’s music from the uplifting and energetic, the moody and melancholic to the dynamic and aggressive, his brand of tech house/techno is a masterful expression of creativity that’s felt, not forced, and free, not confined.
His potent DJ performances have continually delighted revellers at London’s finest clubs; Studio 338, Electric Brixton, Ministry Of Sound, XOYO, The Bridge, EGG Club, Fire/Lightbox, as well as superb supporting sets at Bedrock, Cocoon, Space Ibiza London, Tribal Sessions and We Are FSTVL.
And having released a string of acclaimed tech house/techno in 2014/15 on Poker Flat, KMS Records and Skint, his tireless work ethic helped him to become a guest resident for revered London-based underground house & techno party, ABODE.
2016 has seen support from both music press and peers alike. Established talent Carl Cox (Intec) and Monika Kruse (Terminal M) championing his material. Huge support came for his collaboration with Barber and their ‘Happy Mondays’ track (Elrow Music), whilst recent radio appearances on Rinse FM and Capital Xtra show growing interest from London’s finest tastemakers.
We managed to meet Taylor last week for a chinwag and to ask him a few questions.
We asked: What’s the best party you’ve been to and what’s the best party you’ve played at?
He answered: I’ve been lucky enough to be present at a number of enjoyable events, but then I experienced Berghain / Panorama Bar! Yes, I know there’s plenty of hype and discussion surrounding the venue, I kept expectations low, but once inside the energy was like unlike any club I’ve been too before! Amazing sound provided by the worlds’ best DJs playing extended sets to an open minded, free-sprited crowd, I’d love to say more, but can’t online. In terms of my favourite party I’ve played at, its tough choice, but Studio 338 in London is pretty epic, getting reactions for playing grooves on that terrace is a joy.
We asked: What’s your earliest musical memory?
He answered: Mainly hearing my mum play Reggae, Rare Groove & Soul. My Dad was in a Reggae Soundsystem part-time. He took charge of the selection most times, however when it came to Sunday’s my mum ruled the Hi-Fi!
We asked: What 3 ingredients create the perfect party?
He answered: Booming Soundsystem, Happy People & Great DJ’s.
We asked: What 3 Festivals would you love to play at?
He answered: BPM (Mexico), Sonar (Barcelona), Secret Garden Party (UK).
We asked: Tell us a bit about where the industry is heading. What change would you like to see?
He answered: Drug testing kits at events need to be more accessible, if this happens it would be a positive step forward for our clubbing community. I would like to see a stronger representation of female DJ’s performing on event & festival line-up’s, not for just being a woman, but for the talent. Personally, over the past 18 months, I’ve been very impressed and inspired by a number of women in the industry, however in recent months I’m starting to see a shift in attitude for the better, so I’m feeling more optimistic.
